Description: White or off-white powder, insoluble in ethanol, stable in neutral solutions, hydrolyzed under strong acid and elevated temperature, with end groups oxidizable in alkaline solutions. Easily soluble in water. Odorless and tasteless. Its solution can be sterilized by autoclaving at 100-115°C for 30-45 minutes. Dextran is found in the mucus secreted during the growth of certain microorganisms. It is mainly composed of D-glucopyranose linked by α,1→ bonds, with branching points at 1→2, 1→3, and 1→4 linkages. Its structure varies depending on the type of microorganism and growth conditions.
